Can Mukuruva Get His Chance At Cape Town City This Season?

Seating on top of the log with thirteen wins and only four losses in 24 matches, South African premier league side, Cape Town City F.C could not have hoped for a better start in their debut season as a new franchisee outfit.

With the team successfully jellying together and in a form of their own, the thought of winning the league in their inaugural season in the PSL as Cape Town City F.C has suddenly becomes a reality at the club.

As the pressure of maintaining title race keep hitting up, Eric Tinkler, like any other coach in his circumstances, would want to  limit unnecessary changes to his first XI.

Having signed Zimbabwe's number one goalkeeper, Tatenda Mukuruva after an impressive season with Dynamos F.C and an outstanding performance at the recent Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Gabon with the Warriors, there is no doubt that the former Orlando Pirates coach, Tinkler faces a huge dilemma in giving the young talented goalie a chance to start in the Absa premier league this season.

The 21-year-old superstar is still to make his premier league debut ever since he signed for the club in February. He only made a cameo appearance in a Nedbank Cup qualifyer loss to second tyer outfit Acornbush F.C on 12 March 2017.

Cape Town City first choice goalkeeper, 35-year-old ShuAib Walters and other veteran PSL players like, Lebogang Manyama, Aubrey Ngoma and Bongelethu Jayiya are like the heart and soul of the team that Eric Tinkler would not afford to miss unless injured, suspended or otherwise.

Though it might be too early to criticise Tinkler's player rotation system or complain about Mukuruva's game time at the moment, but these are however some of the issues lingering in the background that Tinkler has to deal with one way or the other considering the player's status.

There is no doubt Mukuruva is a great talent with a big future laying ahead of him and being Zimbabwe's number one, it is obvious the rising superstar craves for  regular game time and deservedly so.

With the title race hitting up and only eight games remaining to complete the season, it looks highly unlikely to see Mukuruva manning the goalposts for the Citizens this season.
