Evans Rusike's Spectacular Goal For Maritzburg United Terminated Mamelodi Sundowns' Hopes For A Consecutive Premier League Championship Double!

Zimbabwe warriors lanky forward, Evans Rusike scored in Maritzburg United's 2-all draw against Mamelodi Sundowns on Wednesday 17 May to deny the defending champions a second League title in a row.

The 26-year-old Chitugwiza-born forward picked the ball from the center half and cleverly lob it over Kennedy Mweene in goals for Masandawana to double the scoreline for The Team of Choice after Brian Onyango's first goal in the 29th minutes of the game.

Mamelodi Sundowns tried to stage a late come back later on in the game, grabbing two goals in the 88th and 94th minutes through Zakri, but it was not enough as they needed a win to maintain their title hopes against rivals Bidvest Wits who were later crowned 2016/17 premier league champions.

Rusike has had an on and off 2016/17 season at Maritzburg United - hugely contributed by injuries that humpered him to gain his full form - scoring only three goals plus two assists in 26 league appearances.

The Team of Choice are 7th on the log table and will play Bloemfontein Celtic in their last league fixture . A point against Sundowns helped them to maintain their hopes of playing in the Mtn 8 cup next season.
