Slow Start For Caps United In The Champions League Group Stage As They Suffer First Defeat To Zamalek

Zimbabwe Champions, Caps United F.C kick-started their Champions League Group stage on a slow start as they suffer a 2-nil defeat to Egyptian giants Zamalek SC on Friday 12 May in Alexandria.

Five-time Champions League winners, Zamalek F.C started the match like a roof on fire, bombarding Makepekepe's territory heavily in the first 45minutes but were unfortunate to get nothing out of it.

Caps United goalkeeper, Edmore Sibanda was outstanding between the posts as he made several crucial saves to keep Makepekepe afloat in the first half. Two minutes from kick-Off, Sibanda cleared Ali Gabr 's header off the line before thwarting another beautiful chance by Tarek Hamed who missed on a one-on-one.

The Zimbabwean Champions struggled to thread neat passes, frequently losing possession and constantly defending precariously.

Ten minutes after the first half Zamalek finally broke the deadlock with a fine finish from 25-year-old Morsy who headed home from Shikabala cross.

The Green Machine managed to calm things down a little, creating space and moving the ball forward after conceding the first goal and almost got an equaliser in the 69th minutes after goalie, Sibanda's well struck free kick was saved by Zamalek goalie, El-shennawy.

The Egyptian giants got the second goal in the 83rd minutes through Stanley Ohawuchi to seal a 2-nil victory and claim a second spot in group B behind USM Alger of Algeria who won 3-nil over Ali Tripoli of Libya on Friday to top the group.

Caps United are seating third on the group and will now face USM Alger at home in Zimbabwe on 23 May 2017.
