Zim Youngster Scores On His Debut For Celtics

England-born Zimbabwean starlet, Kundai Benyu scored on his first outing for Celtic’s Development Side as they beat East Kilbride Thistle 3-1 on Saturday 8 July in a pre-season friendly.

The 19-year-old box-to-box midfielder who joined the Scottish Champions from Ipswich Town last week, found the back of the net in the 55th minute to double the scoreline for the young Celts after Mark Hill's opener early in the second half.

East Kilbride Thistle later pulled one back after Benyu was substituted on the half hour mark, but forward Thomas Caffrey grabbed a goal in the last minutes of the game to restore the young Hoops' lead and seal a 3-1 away win at K-park.

Speaking after the game Professional Academy Manager, Tommy McIntyre said: "Benyu did well. He showed a good attitude and a nice touch and got the second goal. He has an eye for a goal, and he had one or two other chances and was unlucky after some good combinations at the edge of the box.

"I think he enjoyed it. It was good for him to get 60 minutes and it was good we picked up no injuries, which was a big plus as well."

Kundai Benyu will have another tough test as Young Hoops take on Elgin City on Wednesday to wrap up their pre-season training before the league campaign kick-starts in the following week.
