Zimbabwe-Warriors To Play In CECAFA Cup Competition!!

Zimbabwe senior national soccer team - The Warriors - are set to return back to action next month after they were invited to play in Africa's oldest tournament, the Council for East and Central Africa Football Association (CECAFA) Senior Challenge Cup 2017 edition in Kenya from November 25 to December 9.

The tournament which consists of 13 member countries from central and East Africa returns after a two-year absence and will have Zimbabwe-Warriors participate in the tournament as a guest nation.

ZIFA boss Philip Chiyangwa is happy that Zimbabwe-Warriors will use the tournament as part of preparations for 2019 Afcon qualifying campaign.

We are happy to take up the invitation. We will now work to put in place the technical department that will take charge of the Warriors at that competition, which will also serves as part of on-going preparations for the resumption of the 2019 AFCON qualifying campaign,’’ said Chiyagwa 

Zimbabwe-Warriors are not complete strangers to the CECAFA tournament having last participated in the tournament 6-years ago and have once won the Cup way back in 1985 .

Uganda are the current CECAFA champions having won a record 14th title in Addis Ababa in December 2015 after beating Rwanda 1-0 in the final.
