Mhofu Demands Friendly Matches For Zim-Warriors Before 2019 Afcon Qualifiers!

Zimbabwe-warriors substantive coach, Sunday Chidzambwa has called on the Zimbabwe Football Association to secure friendly matches for the senior national team in preparation for the Afcon qualifiers rescheduled to September 2018.

Speaking to Zimbabwe's Herald newspaper, Chidzambwa urged ZIFA to take advantage of all FIFA international breaks and organise friendly matches for the Warriors.

“Our greatest challenge this year was that we did not take part in the World Cup qualifiers when almost all the other nations were involved in those competitive matches," said Chidzambwa

“That inactivity was a big blow to us.

“So what that means is that when we resume the AFCON qualifiers next year we have to push hard.

“We have to utilise the FIFA calendar for international friendlies so that we prepare ourselves well for the important games ahead of us.

“From what I hear, the leadership at ZIFA is willing to help us in every way so that we play as many games as possible,” said Chidzambwa.

Zimbabwe are set to resume their Group G Afcon 2019 qualifiers - which were rescheduled from March to September - in an away encounter to Congo Brazzaville.

Warriors tops Group G with 3 points after their win against Liberia. They are level on points with DR Congo who also won their first encounter against Congo Brazzaville, but ahead on goal difference. Two teams in each group will qualify to Afcon 2019 finals in Cameroon.
