So Near Yet So Far Away, As Warriors Knocked Out In Penalty Shootout!

Zimbabwe-Warriors were ruefully knocked out of the Four Nations Tournament in Zambia yesterday after they fell 5-4 on penalty shootout to hosts Chipolopolo to deny them an almost obvious ticket to the finals against Bafana-Bafana on Saturday.

The Warriors who gave debutants Adam Chicksen, Alec Mudimu, Cliff Moyo and Nyasha Munetsi their first start, were dealt a big blow after Zambia's Chipolopolo came from a 2-1 loss to equalise in the added time of the regular 90 minutes to force the match to a dreaded penalty shootout.

Zimbabwe-Warriors had a good start after they went ahead in the first 46' minutes through an own goal by Isaac Samujompa after good pressure from Evans Rusike, but the lead was cancelled in the 64th minutes courtesy of Orlando Pirates' Justin Shonga goal.

Warriors restored the lead in the 73rd minutes after super-sub Talent Chawapiwa scored after coming on for Silas Songani to put Warriors 2-1 ahead.

Things looked in Warriors favour until in the last minute of additional time when Kampaole came from nowhere to get an equaliser for Zambia and force the match to penalties.

Zimbabwe-warriors stood neck to neck with the Zambians drawing 4-4 in the first round of the penalties before new boy Cliff Moyo shoots over the bar in the sudden death penalties to deny Zimbabwe a ticket to the final.

The Warriors will now play Angola on Saturday for the third and fourth places.
