Mighty-Warriors Enjoy Comprehensive First-Leg Victory Over Namibia's Gladiators

Mighty-Warrors were a double cut above their hosts and are in a great position to go past Africa Women Cup of nations qualifier first round after a comprehensive 0-2 victory over Namibia's Gladiators. In fact, they were several cuts above their hosts and would have returned with a bigger victory if not for shabby finishing.

The Gladiators had an early chance in the game before the tables started turning,  with Zenata Coleman delivering a dangerous looking corner kick in the first 12 minutes of the game, but no one was there to finish.

On the 22nd minutes Mighty Warriors broke the deadlock through Marjory Nyaumwe after a well taken free-kick by Felistas Muzongondi to give Zimbabwe the lead in the first half of the match.

Just after the second half Nyaumwe could have doubled the scores for Mighty Warriors after she pounced onto a loose high ball, past Gladiators' Mamie Kasaona before shooting over the cross bar with only a goalkeeper to beat.

After an hour's mark, Erina Jeke squandered another beautful chance after a swift counter attack, but again was denied by the legs of Namibia goalkeeper, Matheus.

Mighty-Warriors' second goal finally came in the 90th minute after substitute Mavis Chirandu unleashed a powerful low drive into the right corner from the edge of the box to give Mighty Warriors a comprehensive first leg victory over Namibia.

Zimbabwe and the Gladiators will be jetting out of Namibia on Friday morning to prepare for their return leg in Harare on Sunday 8th of April at Rufaro stadium.

The winner will advance to the second round where either Tanzania or Zambia awaits and the eventual winner books their tickets for the finals to be held in Ghana.

Mighty-Warriors First XI: C. Dzingirai, L. Mutokuto, N. Mjika, E. Msipa, F. Muzongondi, B. Kabwe, S. Makoto, N. Ncube, T. Mandaza(C), M. Nyaumwe, E. Jeke.
