Injury-Hit Warriors Force Mhofu To Make Huge Changes

Zimbabwe Warriors coach Sunday Chidzambwa has been forced to make huge changes to his initial 28-man squad after withdrawal of key players because of injuries.

Czech-based defender, Costa Nhamoinesu and possibly in-form Dalian Yifang forward Nyasha Mushekwi are the latest key players to join the Warriors injury list ahead of their Afcon qualifier against Congo Brazzaville next month after missing out Marvelous Nakamba and Ovidy Karuru due to same reason.

Nhamoinesu, the 32-year-old Czech-based defender reportedly suffered a thigh muscle rapture in Sparta Prague's 2-2 draw at home to FK Pribram last Sunday, where he was substituted in the 83rd minutes.

Dalian Yifang hot-shot Nyasha Mushekwi could also miss out his anticipated return to the Warriors squad after the striker is reportedly suffering from digestive tract problem, known in the medical term as (IDS), and allegedly needs an endorscopy in South Africa before he can be cleared to play.

However Chidzambwa has romped in Bloemfontein Celtic left-back Ronald Pfumbidzai and in-form Golden Arrows forward Knox Mutizwa who have been previously overlooked, to replace Nhamoinesu and Mushekwi respectively.

Golden Arrows defensive midfielder, Danny Phiri has also been called in to boost the midfield department after losing Nakamba and Karuru through injuries.

"There is nothing we can do but we are calling equally good players to replace the injured ones," said Warriors team manager Wellington Mpandare speaking to The Herald.

The Warriors squad is expected in camp on the 3rd of September in Harare before flying out to Congo Brazzaville for their Group G Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on the 9th of September.
