The investigation was launched at the end of 2017 after a report by the Sports Fraud Unit. It covered suspicious financial transactions within the first Belgian league, and during the investigation there were indications on the match-fixing of the 2017/2018 season.

It is not known wether Leko was taken into custody as a witness or suspect, but his arrest is a big blow for Club Brugge.
