Morocco Or South Africa To Host AFCON 2019 After Cameroon Lose Hosting Rights!

CAF President Ahmed Ahmed.

Confiderations of African Football (CAF) President Ahmad Ahmad confirmed on Friday after an Extraordinary meeting of the Executive Comittee in Accra Ghana, that Cameroon have been stripped of hosting Africa Cup of Nations 2019 finals citing delays in preparation and security concerns as the main factors.

The CAF leadership expressed dissatisfaction with Cameroon's progress in hosting the continent's big competition, which now comprises of 24 teams.

The West African country had initially planned to host a 16-nation tournament and the increase of the number of teams at the finals could also have contributed for Cameroon to fail meeting the requirements.

And the crisis in Cameroon between the Anglo and Franco phone speaking areas is also another factor that contributed to CAF's decision to strip Cameroon of hosting rights.

Morocco who have been on standby to take over hosting rights in-case Cameroon fails to meet the required standards, are reportedly angling closer to take over the hosting of AFCON 2019.

Although South Africa's name also comes up, but the North African nation is believed to have convinced the African football body executive committee after successfully hosting 2018 CHAN tournament early this year.

The new host nation will be announced on 31st December 2018.
