Chippa United And Polokwane City In Race For Charlton Mashumba's Signature!

Absa premiership sides, Chippa United and Polokwane City are in race to secure the signature Zimbabwe and Jomo Cosmos striker Charlton Mashumba in the current transfer window.

The 26-year-old former Highlands Park forward had a brief stint in Algeria with USM Algiers after signing a 3-year contract with the club in June 2018 before his contract was prematurely terminated and returning to Jomo Cosmos in October 2018.

Mashumba has scored four goals in seven appearances in the National First Division since his return to his former club - attracting interest from Chippa United and Polokwane City.

According to, the Zimbabwean forward first engaged in negotiations with Chippa United before Polokwane City joined in the bid for the Zimbabwean's services.

"Mashumba was set to join Chippa United. However, Jomo has received another offer from Polokwane City," says a source.

"The player might now be signing with Polokwane City."

If Mashumba joins Polokwane City, he will become the third Zimbabwean player at the club after George Chigova and Walter Musona - replacing Dominic Chugwa who enjoyed a brief stint at the club before returning back to Zimbabwe premiership last year.

It remains to be seen where Mashumba will be playing his football in the new year, but a move away from Cosmos is imminent.
